Waiting on The Pirate's Wish by Cassandra Rose Clarke

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights any upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Publication date: June 4, 2013
After setting out to break the curse that binds them together, the pirate Ananna and the assassin Naji find themselves stranded on an enchanted island in the north with nothing but a sword, their wits, and the secret to breaking the curse: complete three impossible tasks. With the help of their friend Marjani and a rather unusual ally, Ananna and Naji make their way south again, seeking what seems to be beyond their reach.

Unfortunately, Naji has enemies from the shadowy world known as the Mists, and Ananna must still face the repercussions of going up against the Pirate Confederation. Together, Naji and Ananna must break the curse, escape their enemies — and come to terms with their growing romantic attraction. (Goodreads)
While The Assassin's Curse was not my favorite book of 2012, it was certainly a fun read. I loved learning about this world full of pirates, assassins, curses, and mysterious presences that tried to tear Ananna and Naji apart. And the ending was not an ending at all! The first book just kind of...stopped, so it'll be nice to pick up Ananna and Naji's story again.

What are you waiting on?

  3. I thought The Assassin's Curse was alright, but I wasn't a huge fan of the accents. One of my pet peeves. xD

    1. I don't mind accents if they serve a purpose in the greater story, although I do think they can be hard to get used to initially. After reading The Assassin's Curse a bit, I found that I grew to enjoy it. Sorry that didn't really happen for you!

    1. So I've heard! I hope you get accepted, Keertana. I'm going to be weird and not request it, I think. I bought an ebook version of the first one and expect to buy an ebook version of the second, but if I read an ARC of the second, then I don't think I'd ever reread an ebook version of it. I'm weird like that. :/ But I look forward to others' advanced reviews!

  5. I still need to read The Assassin's Curse which I'm not sure about. But they speak in a dialect! Oh no! A big pet peeve of mine. But I'll still consider it cause I love the covers. I hope you enjoy this one more when you get your hands on it.

    1. But you loved Blood Red Road! And The Knife of Never Letting Go! From my understanding, they're written with accents too. I think it all depends on how the accents are used within the context of the book, and I do think that this was well done.

  6. This is a great pick Amanda, I have to agree The Assassin's Curse just sort of left me hanging, but I'm glad we didn't have to wait too long for the release of this book! I managed to grab a copy from NetGalley, I hope you get the chance to get your hands on a copy early on too! :)

    1. Yeah, definitely! Ooh so exciting that you have an ARC to read! I'm going to try to wait the two months until it gets published, but I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.
