Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the bloggers of The Broke and the Bookish. This week I am listing the top ten favorite books that I read before I was a blogger.
Well, this is a difficult topic. I'm supposed to have a clear-cut list of my top ten favorite books total before May of 2012? Not possible. What I ultimately decided to do was manipulate the topic slightly and choose some of the best-loved and most frequently re-read books from my personal collection over the years.
Many of these should come as no surprise, since I've mentioned them in many ways on this blog, even though I haven't written specific reviews on them.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Song of the Lioness quartet by Tamora Pierce
The Immortals quartet by Tamora Pierce
The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner
Archangel by Sharon Shinn
His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith
Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins
Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
Unsurprisingly, I still consider many of these books to be among my favorite books ever.
Let me know how you cleverly manipulated the topic to address your top ten favorite books you read before you were a blogger!

Your favorites is mostly favorites of mine and ones that I've been meaning to read for ages, though I have to confess to being one of those people who liked the movie of Ella Enchanted and not the book. I've never heard of Archangel, but I'll go look it up now!
ReplyDeleteOh no! You need to read the book ASAP! I saw a snippet of that travesty of a movie that claims it's "Ella Enchanted." Shudders. It was terrible.
DeleteAnd Archangel is amazing, as is everything I've read by Sharon Shinn. I highly recommend her.
Great list.
ReplyDeleteTamora Pierce is an awesome author! P&P is a great book. I haven't read either The Queen's Theif series or Archangel. His Dark Materials is a good series. I haven't read Crown Duel or Ella Enchanted either, though I kinda want to read Ella having seen the film. The Hunger Games I read after I got my blog, though I've still not managed the whole trilogy. And of course the Harry Potter series, though I will admit I haven't added it to my list but I probably should have.
Yes, Tamora Pierce is great!
DeleteYou should definitely read Ella Enchanted, The Queen's Thief, Archangel, and The Hunger Games in its entirety!
Ahhhh, HP and HG :D love love love!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT :)
Definitely all the love for them :)
DeleteSince I've been blogging since 2006, it was really, really hard to think of 10 books that were favorites before I started the blog. I chose the HP series, among others.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
You have been blogging for a while! That's awesome, although I do think that would definitely make it harder to complete this list!
DeleteHarry and Katniss are really making the rounds today! I guess all us book lovers start in the same place! :) Great list!
ReplyDeleteJulie~ My TTT
Makes sense. They're both quality series. Thanks!
DeleteI know, this was a tough topic this week! I had to whittle 18 years of reading down to 10 books! I should have done it by year instead :)
ReplyDeleteBy year would have been interesting for sure. I'm not sure I can remember every year though lol.
DeleteGreat list! I also have P and P and The Harry Potter series on my list. I still haven't read Ella Enchanted or any of the His Dark Materials series even though I want to!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're able to read both of them soon! Definitely worth your time!
DeleteI didn't actually do a TTT today, but if I would have done one I probably would have done a favorites, and the His Dark Materials trilogy would've been on it (except since I have that weird Series Finale Fear, I've still only read and re-read the first two, which is LAME).
ReplyDeleteYou have several on your stack here that I want to read: Tamora Pierce, Megan Whalen Turner, and *gasp* I haven't finished the Harry Potter series yet. Also, I'm about to start Pride and Prejudice!
I like your list and what you did with it, Amanda! And I like that you used a real picture! :)
Oh the third is fantastic. Please do read The Amber Spyglass soon, Asheley! I promise you won't regret it. :)
DeleteThanks, Asheley. And obviously I recommend all I've listed that you've yet to read!
OH, I just LOVE The Queen's Thief, P&P, His Dark Materials, HP, THG, Ella Enchanted, and The Immortals Quartet. I only read Archangel after I started blogging, but I really liked it, and I'm planning to read Song of the Lioness very soon, so I'm thrilled you loved that. Great list, Amanda! :D
ReplyDeleteYou haven't read Song of the Lioness yet?! Please read it ASAP, Keertana! Such an important cornerstone in YA fantasy, IMO. Definitely worth a read (or many).
