About

Thanks so much for stopping by!

I'm Amanda, and I'm the mind behind Late Nights with Good Books.

I am a full-time graduate student working towards my Master's of Library and Information Sciences degree, as well as a part-time library assistant. I spend much of my limited free time reading, blogging, writing, and consuming copious amounts of tea.

Stories have always been an important part of my life, so much so that from a young age I knew that my life would always have to revolve around them. For a while, that meant reading, writing, and eventually earning a Bachelor's degree in English. Now it means running a book blog and pursuing a career in librarianship. I'm excited to see what dedicating my life to stories will mean in a few years from now!

Late Nights with Good Books was formed both as a solution to my lack of critical thinking and writing after college, and also because I was in the midst of really trying to figure out what the next step should be in my life. (Like I said, everything in my life seems to come back to stories.) It's first and foremost a book review blog, because that's how I originally envisioned the site and it seems to work best for me.

That doesn't mean I won't also include additional posts relating to books, the publishing industry, trends, or other related information, however, if the mood strikes me.

Some of the stories that have had a major impact on my life include:
  • Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale collections
  • Peter Beagle's The Last Unicorn
  • Edith Hamilton's Mythology
  • Gail Carson Levine's Ella Enchanted
  • Tamora Pierce's Tortall quartets (The Song of the Lioness, The Immortals, The Protector of the Small, Daughter of the Lioness)
  • J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series
  • Sherwood Smith's Crown Duel
  • J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings
  • Megan Whalen Turner's The Queen's Thief series

Of course, I'm always seeking new stories to love, hence the creation of this blog.

One of my favorite things to do is discuss books with people. Please do contact me at any point here on the blog, through email, or via any of the social media accounts linked on the right hand side of the page.
