Waiting on The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights any upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Publication Date: September 17, 2013
It all began with a ruined elixir and an accidental bolt of lightning…

Iolanthe Seabourne is the greatest elemental mage of her generation—or so she's being told. The one prophesied for years to be the savior of The Realm. It is her duty and destiny to face and defeat the Bane, the greatest mage tyrant the world has ever known. A suicide task for anyone let alone a sixteen-year-old girl with no training, facing a prophecy that foretells a fiery clash to the death.

Prince Titus of Elberon has sworn to protect Iolanthe at all costs but he's also a powerful mage committed to obliterating the Bane to revenge the death of his family—even if he must sacrifice both Iolanthe and himself to achieve his goal.

But Titus makes the terrifying mistake of falling in love with the girl who should have been only a means to an end. Now, with the servants of the Bane closing in, he must choose between his mission and her life. (Goodreads)
Mages, star-crossed lovers, and political intrigue? And we all know by now just how I feel about the "chosen one" story aspect. Spoiler: It's my favorite! This sounds like my type of book and I'm desperately hoping that it will be!

What are you waiting on?

Amanda

Amanda loves few things better than sitting down with a cup of tea and a book. She frequently stays up far too late, telling herself she just needs to finish one more page. When she's not wrapped up in the stories of others, Amanda works as a children's librarian in a public library.

  1. I'm really looking forward to this, too. It sounds exactly like my sort of book, and I've heard plenty of great things about it already. Great pick! :)

And I see you're reading Dreamhunter! I enjoyed Knox's latest book (which I think is set in the same world?) so I look forward to seeing what you think.

    1. Thanks, Sam! I hope it lives up to our expectations!
I'm actually on Dreamquake now. I really, really enjoyed Dreamhunter. Definitely not a book for everyone, though. Hoping to have my review up for it by next weekend!

    1. I can't quite recall the old cover. Was that the one with a castle landscape over a churning ocean? I think so... Yeah, that was pretty cool. But oh well. At least they changed the cover now, rather than mid-series.

  4. I'm really excited for this one too! I have to admit I liked the original cover a lot more, but I'm hoping this is good, especially since I read a Thomas novel before and was really impressed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my expectations aren't dashed!

    1. I have not heard of this author before now, so I guess I have some goodreads-stalking to do. :) I am glad to hear you've liked previous works by her - makes it more likely that this book will be good as well!

  5. Once upon a time I won a bunch (like 20) of arcs from the Epic Reads Tea Time, and this was one of them! I haven't read it yet but if you'd like me to mail it to you, it would force me to read it and/or just not read it. Either way, it would make me do something with it rather than have it sitting in a pile. What say you?

    1. Yeah, the old cover was better, but at least it didn't turn into something completely horrible. And I'm hoping the book's contents make the cover change not matter, you know? :)
