Thanks, Jasprit. I think you should consider reading it yourself eventually. :)Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03052456915027241479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-63860103341043788942013-12-06T20:38:59.227-06:002013-12-06T20:38:59.227-06:00Dystopians are so overdone, that's really the ...Dystopians are so overdone, that's really the problem I think.
And yes. Dystopian as a romance? One of my biggest pet peeves EVER. Ugh. It makes me angry just to think about that, and I've barely read any books that can be classified as that.
Thanks, Aylee!Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03052456915027241479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-55388515903538999362013-12-06T20:37:40.953-06:002013-12-06T20:37:40.953-06:00I was excited about her Goddess Test at one point ...I was excited about her Goddess Test at one point since I LOVE Greek mythology, but then I started reading reviews of it. I'd think this would be a bit better than that? And I do hope that I enjoy the sequel now haha.Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03052456915027241479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-11398640034602280732013-12-06T20:36:30.700-06:002013-12-06T20:36:30.700-06:00I'm starting to have dystopian fatigue. And perhaps you're right - with so many dystopians how many new concepts can really still come forth? But for what this is, I thought it was well done.Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03052456915027241479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-65411612765252876252013-11-20T04:37:08.755-06:002013-11-20T04:37:08.755-06:00I initially had totally dismissed Pawn when I firs...I initially had totally dismissed Pawn when I first heard about it, but now slowly as more reviews are trickling in, I think it could be a book that I could enjoy. I actually don't mind that you thought that Pawn wasn't all that ground breaking, sometimes I just need a decent dystopian which doesn't go down the same path as every other dystopian out there. Also the relationship between Kitty and Benjy sounds wonderful! Lovely review Amanda!Jasprithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11346050783201302967noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-81580549100773825232013-11-19T21:58:05.830-06:002013-11-19T21:58:05.830-06:00I don't think every book has to necessarily ad...I don't think every book has to necessarily advance its genre either... however, I am a bit tired of reading the same old plot again when it comes to dystopians. I never thought the day would come because I used to be obsessed with them, but I have finally been overexposed after years and years of the same story. So I need something more original about the dystopians I read these days. HOWEVER, I can at least appreciate that this one was well done, focused on the politics of the world, and it wasn't just a romance in disguise as a dystopian, like The Selection. I hate that. So while I can't say I'm going to be racing out the door to get this one, I will definitely keep it on my radar. I'd be curious to see how the sequel fares in reviews before making a decision to read it. Great thoughts!Ayleehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07639250102446794830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-86677046042820970542013-11-19T12:45:17.994-06:002013-11-19T12:45:17.994-06:00I don't think I had a solid understanding of w...I don't think I had a solid understanding of who Lila was either. I read this one recently and thought it was a decent read overall, but not particularly anything I could find myself easily recommending. I'm not the biggest fan of Carter's The Goddess Test either, so I'm still unsure about whether or not I want to continue with the series yet. I might just wait to see what everyone thinks of the sequel first. I'm glad you found this mostly entertaining overall! I'm more-or-less done with dystopians, only because I'm so tired of the genre. I'm glad you did manage to enjoy this, though, even if it isn't anything wholly new. (I think that's just too hard at this point.) Great review, Amanda!Keertanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01071392026876644282noreply@blogger.com
