But I don't think it matters the order you're introduced to Tolkien's works, honestly.

Aw that's so wonderful! I'm the lone LotR lover in my family (although my family will watch it with me the first time). I hope you and your dad and son get to see it soon!

And same here. The Hobbit is a quicker read and more entertaining on the surface, but I did enjoy LotR better. Still, though, I do think that the pros outweigh the cons for this film. :)Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03052456915027241479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-21903669450919786852013-01-08T19:53:00.768-06:002013-01-08T19:53:00.768-06:00Three now, actually! But I won't deny it's kind of exciting that I'll have two more films to look forward to!Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03052456915027241479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-74335112576155544662013-01-08T19:52:26.130-06:002013-01-08T19:52:26.130-06:00Me too! Even though I knew that the film would add stuff and be different from the book, I know that I can trust Peter Jackson to do what he thinks is right by the book. All I want in a film is a director who really respects and cares about the source material, which Jackson clearly does.Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03052456915027241479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-25326470655579263192013-01-08T19:50:54.878-06:002013-01-08T19:50:54.878-06:00I do hope Azog is defeated in the second film. I understand Azog is standing in the way, but he's rather less imposing than Smaug. And Smaug (and the dwarves' personal greed) should still be the villain at the end of the day.

Yes, I will agree I enjoyed seeing the dwarves brought to life. And Bilbo. And Gandalf. And just being in Middle-earth again. It was good and I enjoyed seeing the movie. Thanks, Keertana!Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03052456915027241479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-12486368346543811962013-01-08T16:02:31.156-06:002013-01-08T16:02:31.156-06:00meant "three" movies-- stupid auto-corre...meant "three" movies-- stupid auto-correct:)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07026974627724672435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-78497963588304770732013-01-08T16:01:28.974-06:002013-01-08T16:01:28.974-06:00This was such an awesome review, Amanda! I did it ...This was such an awesome review, Amanda! I did it backwards, read The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy AFTER watching the three LotR movies (which I absolutely LOVED.) To say that I was excited to learn that The Hobbit was being made into a film, and that Jackson would return alongside some of the LotR stars, is an understatement. I haven't watched the movie yet. waiting to coordinate a day so my dad, me and my son can all go watch together (3 generations of Tolkien fans!)

I will admit to wondering how exactly Jasckson was going to pull off stretching there movies from one book. I see from your review that issues do arise, as I suspected they might. And really, of all the books, The Hobbit was my least favorite. BUT I am just SO excited to be back in that world, to learn more about The Shire and Rivendell (Oh, I LOVE that place! and see Gandalf again and hear that WONDERFUL music, that those issses are really NON-Issues:)

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07026974627724672435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-40909642440233312992013-01-05T15:57:35.885-06:002013-01-05T15:57:35.885-06:00Glad you enjoyed watching it! I wish they hadn't done that. :(Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01974988315420539840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-47144602490191003192013-01-05T10:35:38.726-06:002013-01-05T10:35:38.726-06:00Oh I'm glad you enjoyed watching The Hobbit Am...Oh I'm glad you enjoyed watching The Hobbit Amanda, I'm always worried when it comes to watching one of my favourite books into a film adaptation. But it sounds like you enjoyed it for the most part. I should really just get over my nervousness and watch it already! :)Jasprithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11346050783201302967noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4160066904665347291.post-36472919651408360262013-01-04T20:55:53.910-06:002013-01-04T20:55:53.910-06:00Huh, you know, I never thought about how the plot ...Huh, you know, I never thought about how the plot line with Azog actually took AWAY from the point Tolkien was driving home. I personally liked how it fit in with the plot, not adding extra scenes that weren't in the book and in my eyes, it kind of made the whole journey more desperate because someone was standing in the way of their homeland, and HOME was the message behind The Unexpected Journey, but it certainly did put Smaug in the background. I feel like the next movie will do him justice, only to resort back to Azog in the last one I think... Still, I loved the film and, especially, the dwarves who finally came alive for me. Wonderful review, Amanda! :DKeertanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01071392026876644282noreply@blogger.com
